Some good news from overseas

North Korea has agreed to dismantle all its nuclear facilities by year’s end in exchange for 950,000 tons of oil.
Subject to the usual concerns about verification, this is very good news. A nuclear North Korea is in no-one’s best interests; given a choice between a creepy dictator with nukes and a creepy dictator without nukes ‘without nukes’ is a much better option; failing complete disarmament, a creepy dictator with no capacity to make more nuclear weapons is a step in the right direction.
As someone who has frequently criticized the administration for its refusal to negotiate with anyone Bush has decided is “evil,” I’m greatly pleased they’ve done something positive here.
