Slime of the day: Even if Obama’s a Christian, is he still a Muslim?

March 10th, 2008, 8:15 am · Post a Comment · posted by fsherman

That’s the question raised by “missionary to Capitol Hill” Rev. Rob Schenck, who suggests that even though Obama is a Christian, Muslims might consider him one of them: “Muslims certainly do not pray to Jesus. They do not kneel at the foot of a cross. They do not join churches. They do not make a public statement such as ‘I am a Christian, a devout Christian.’ They don’t do that. Based on that, I would have to conclude, no, he is not a Muslim. And yet the question haunts us: how does the Muslim world see that? How does a Muslim religious authority see that? Would a Muslim religious authority say he was born of a Muslim father, therefore he remains a Muslim?”

And if they do, then what? They’ll somehow pressure him to sell out America to al-Qaida? They’ll pronounce a fatwa against him as an apostate? Gosh, you don’t suppose this is some kind of smear tactic trying to link Obama with Islam, do you?

Last year, Schenck reported on the Faith in Action Web site that Obama isn’t an evangelical—which is hardly noteworthy, since he doesn’t claim to be. The National Clergy Council, the “sister group” to Faith in Action stated that judging Obama’s faith was justified because “by injecting his faith so directly into his campaign, Mr. Obama has invited an examination and debate focused on his faith. Sadly, we will find Mr. Obama’s Christianity woefully deficient.”

Of course, when John Ashcroft was up for confirmation as attorney general, an NCC representative said that grilling Ashcroft “on his Christian doctrinal beliefs … was one of the most contentious, prejudicial, petty and insulting exercises I have witnessed in Washington since arriving here nearly twelve years ago.”

So apparently questioning someone’s beliefs is only acceptable when they’re left-wing, and secretly Muslim.
