Missed the name, but he’s on the Destin Harbor CRA. Admits he can’t see how the council reaches some of the conclusions it does, but “that’s not my job.” Though some of them (affordable housing) verge on socialism.
He’d like a definition of the “festive market place” that the council wants to create in the Destin harbor. He’s not sure one exists.
He’s very irked that the new marketing slogan for the area, THE Beach, seems to omit the harbor completely: “The resort companies are running this town.”

And then Linda Cherry: “If you’d let us pay for the beach restoration and the sea oats you’d have money for other things.” (She’s a longtime opponent of the city’s beach restoration project, which she believes violates waterfront owners’ property rights). Cherry estimates 30 percent of the sea oats planted since beach restoration have been trampled.
Barker: “When I was a young kid, people used to take home sea oats as souvenirs … that became very much taboo and the problem ceased to exist. The last two or three decades … maybe it’s become a problem again.” He suggests the TDC can tell people on its Web site that sea oats are protected and shouldn’t be damaged.
Cherry: “it’s hard to believe people just run through them … They don’t know any better.”
John Medina seconds her observation.
And we’re done. Hooray!
