
The proposal: That the Harbor CRA Advisory Committee can have members who are not Destin residents provided they own a business in the harbor district.
This would be different from other city committees. One of the arguments is that it’s so hard to recruit people for city committees so broadening the standards a little might help.
Bagby: “I don’t want to set up where we have different rules for different committees… they’re spending Destin tax money.” That shouldn’t be done by non-residents. Allowing people who don’t own businesses or reside in the harbor district, that he could support. “To spend Destin tax money, i want you to be a citizen of Destin.”
Jim Wood: You could end up with a committee with no Destin residents on it, spending tax dollars. Not acceptable!
