Palin in an interview last week on efforts to use Bill Ayers as a campaign prop: “If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations …then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”
In the first place, criticizing someone is not suppression of free speech.
In the second, if Palin has so much “fear” of the media that they can intimidate her into shutting up, she’s not qualified for the job. If you can’t stand the heat, don’t go into the kitchen.
And as blogger Glenn Greenwald pointed out this weekend, by Palin’s logic wouldn’t criticizing Obama over knowing Bill Ayers constitute attacking his First Amendment freedom of association?
