Nancy Weidenhamer says she had a presentation on lifeguard/public safety planned, but Joe D’Agostino of the FD is going to make his presentation instead if that’s OK with them. She said he already made it to the Public Works/Public Safety Committee.
D’Agostino gives his lifeguarding experience (extensive) and asks “what came first, the flag or the lifeguard?” The flag system was implemented by the state, which is great for South Florida, where there are lots of municipalities that need a common standard and the lifeguard stands are very obviously closed when the day ends. Here there were no professional lifeguards on the city’s beaches until 2004.
